Channagiri’s identity begins with the fortified hill above the town. Davanagere district’s official account attributes the old fort to Queen Chennammaji and names the Bete Ranganathaswami temple on the summit.
A fort, not a managed viewpoint
The surviving walls and broken approaches reward a daylight climb, but this is exposed historic ground with loose stone and unguarded edges. Carry water, wear proper shoes and leave before dusk.
