Kalhattigiri is a compact stop on the Kemmanagundi road, but it is not simply a viewpoint. The waterfall descends beside Veerabhadreshwara Temple, so visitors move through a shared space of worship, spray and polished stone.
Choose the flow, not just the month
Rain gives the cascade its force and also makes the approach more hazardous. If water is running hard across the walking line, keep back; a fuller photograph is not worth entering fast water or crowding the shrine threshold.
Bring the right basics
Wear footwear with grip that is easy to remove where worship requires. Carry drinking water, a rain layer and a dry bag for electronics; do not expect a long list of services at the falls.
Keep the stop in daylight
The road below Kemmanagundi bends through hill country and can be misty or wet. Arrive with enough daylight to see the steps and to continue the drive without rushing.
