Munnar’s sights are a transport problem. Eravikulam is 14.8 km up a mountain, Mattupetty 13.4, Echo Point 19.3, Top Station 38.4 and Kolukkumalai a jeep track in the dark. The town runs on pre-booked taxis and jeeps because there is no other way to do any of that, and the app cabs do not work here at all. Which is what makes Blossom Hydel Park unusual: it is 1.2 km from the KSRTC bus stand at Old Munnar, on the same road, on the flat.

The walk

From the KSRTC stand you follow the Munnar–Aluva road south along the river for a little over a kilometre — about a quarter of an hour at an ordinary pace — and the gate is on the left with the car park behind it. One caution: this is NH85 and it has no footpath, so with small children take an autorickshaw for the ten minutes rather than walking it. From the newer Munnar bazaar it is 3.3 km, five minutes in a vehicle.

And the bus

Every Kochi, Adimali, Kottayam and Theni service passes the gate, because the gate is on the trunk road out of Munnar. If you are arriving from Kochi you reach the park before you reach the town.

Why the flatness matters

The park is a riverside strip on the valley floor at about 1,450 metres, with paved walks, lawns, benches, and flowers displayed in raised tiers of pots rather than in beds. There are steps down to parts of the bank and a couple of short footbridges, but the main walk does not climb. In a district where the standard day out involves a shuttle bus, a gradient and an hour in a jeep, that is genuinely the point of the place: somewhere a family with a four-year-old and a grandmother can spend two level hours twenty minutes from the hotel.

What you give up is the view. There is no high-range panorama here — you look at water and at the Kannan Devan tea slopes on the far bank. If you want the panorama as well, Pothamedu viewpoint is 1.5 km up the same road, five minutes away.
