“Chimmony package” is not a complete booking request. Kerala Tourism describes a three-hour guided trek from Virakuthodu to Choorathala and, separately, an Anaporu interior overnight that includes boating, forest trekking and food. Sharing one sanctuary does not make them versions of the same itinerary.
Choose the named day trek for the route
The Virakuthodu–Choorathala product has the clearest line: five kilometres, about three hours and an accompanying guide. It suits a traveller who can reach the sanctuary early, complete a substantial forest walk and return the same day without needing accommodation inside.
Its dependable subjects are the forest itself, watercourses, butterflies and birdlife. Reservoir views may frame arrival and departure, but boating is not silently included in the published walking description.
Choose Anaporu for time inside
Anaporu changes both duration and logistics. The official description combines an interior forest stay with reservoir boating, trekking and food. The night is not simply a room attached to the day route; it creates another cycle of evening, darkness and morning in the sanctuary.
That larger commitment requires confirmation of availability, reporting time, group capacity, sleeping arrangements and the current total. A photograph of a reservoir or forest cannot answer those operational questions, and older tariffs should not be carried forward as live quotes.
The dam visit is a third thing
A visitor can also come for the dam and reservoir edge when public access permits. That is valuable but it is neither completion of the five-kilometre trail nor an Anaporu overnight. Coracle or bamboo-rafting offers, when running, have their own availability and safety controls.
The clean booking question is therefore about purpose: a named forest route today, an interior night with combined activities, or a reservoir visit. Calling Chimmony Range before the road journey keeps those three promises from collapsing into one.
