Erumely’s Petta temple opens onto a working street rather than an isolated compound. Nearby stands the mosque associated with Vavar, and beyond is the larger Sastha temple.
Ritual is movement through town
During Petta Thullal, groups travel through this sequence, paying respects at the Vavar shrine before continuing. The route itself expresses the relationship.
Each building remains an active place of worship with its own rules. Remove footwear where directed, keep prayer routes clear and ask before close photography.
What to notice on the ground
Notice the ordinary town between the sacred stops: buses, shops, pilgrims and residents all share the same narrow public space.
