Sulur Lake

Set up by the Kasthuri Sreenivasan Trust and inaugurated in 1988, this gallery and textile museum on Avinashi Road chronicles the history of textile technology through charts, models and actual machines, from ancient whorl wheels to modern looms. Fitting for Coimbatore's identity as a textile city, it also displays rare artefacts. It combines an art gallery with an industrial-heritage textile collection.

Singanallur Lake is a key urban wetland in eastern Coimbatore spread over about 1.15 square kilometres and is one of the city's premier birdwatching sites. It attracts more than 100 species of resident and migratory birds, including pelicans, painted storks, egrets and herons, especially between October and February. Its accessibility makes it a favourite spot for birders and morning walkers.

Kari Motor Speedway is a purpose-built motorsport circuit near Chettipalayam, outside Coimbatore, used for competitive racing and track activities. Public entry and spectator access depend on the event calendar, so check the organiser's current programme before travelling.

Located at Puliakulam junction in the heart of Coimbatore, this Ganesha temple is famed for its enormous idol carved from a single block of granite. Said to be the largest single-stone Vinayagar idol in Asia at roughly 14 tonnes, its towering monolithic deity is a well-known city landmark. Crowds peak during Vinayaka Chaturthi.

Valankulam is one of Coimbatore's chain of urban tanks fed by the Noyyal system, located a few kilometres from the city centre. It has a boat house on the Ukkadam–Sungam bypass road and supports urban birdlife and recreation. The lake is part of the city's network of restored waterbodies used for boating and leisure.

This is one of the largest and most prominent temples dedicated to Lord Ayyappan outside Kerala, modelled in layout and worship on the Sabarimala shrine. It becomes a major devotional hub during the Mandala–Makaravilakku pilgrimage season when thousands of black-clad Ayyappa devotees gather. It serves as an important urban Ayyappa centre for Coimbatore's Malayali and Tamil devotees.

St. Michael's Cathedral on Big Bazaar Street is the principal Roman Catholic cathedral of Coimbatore, originally consecrated in 1867 by Bishop Claude-Marie Depommier. The old church was demolished and rebuilt around 2013, and the present structure is admired for its paintings and stained-glass work. It is the seat of the Catholic Diocese of Coimbatore and a heritage religious landmark in the old city.

The Government Museum in Coimbatore is the district's state-run museum with sections on archaeology, sculpture, bronzes, coins and natural history. It preserves regional antiquities and artefacts illustrating the history of the Kongu region. It is a modest but authentic heritage stop for visitors interested in the area's past.

Sri Koniamman Temple at Ukkadam is regarded as the guardian deity (kaval deivam) of Coimbatore city and is believed to be more than 500 years old. The goddess Koniamman is revered as the protector of the city. It is one of the oldest and most culturally significant temples in the urban core, hosting a major annual festival.
