The district describes fourteen festival days beginning with flag hoisting. Dhandayuthapani descends from the hill and moves through Chettikulam morning and evening on changing vahanas, including horse, silver peacock and flower-decorated forms.
The street becomes sacred space
Normal route times and parking assumptions do not survive a procession. Arrive before restrictions, use minimal baggage, follow stewards and never force a vehicle through worshippers. A 2026 district notice confirms Panguni Uthira remains a significant civic gathering.
Light has its own dates
On Panguni 19–21, the district says dawn light reaches the Shiva lingam and moves towards Kamakshi. Maasi 19–21 brings evening light to the hill deity. Confirm Gregorian dates annually and do not block the doorway for a photograph.
Choose the right kind of visit
Come on an ordinary morning for details and unhurried movement. Come during Panguni for collective ritual, accepting queues and reduced architectural access. Trying to demand both experiences at once is unfair to the place.
