Two visitors can come to the same Anjaneyar shrine and remember quite different scenes. The difference may be the alankaram—the adornment prepared for that day’s worship.
What alankaram adds
Flowers, butter decoration and royal-style dress are different ways of honouring the deity. They bring colour and texture to worship and give devotees reasons to return for particular observances.
Abhishekam is a different ritual
Ceremonial bathing is not the same as decoration. At this shrine, a special abhishekam is associated with Moola nakshatra, so its date follows the religious calendar rather than a recurring weekday.
Choosing a visit
If you are interested in a particular adornment, ask for that programme by name. For a short darshan, an ordinary open session may fit better. In either case, leave space for worshippers and ask before taking photographs.
