The name Naga Sai carries a story. In the temple’s own account, a cobra appeared before Sai Baba’s picture during bhajans on 7 January 1943. Devotees welcomed it with flowers and understood its presence as a manifestation of Baba.
A community already taking shape
The Sai movement in Coimbatore had begun in 1939. B. V. Narasimha Swami and C. Varadaraja Ayyah were among its early figures, and land on Mettupalayam Road became a home for the growing devotional community.
The name that endured
The cobra episode belongs to the shrine’s living religious tradition. It explains why this particular Sai Baba temple is known as Naga Sai and why the memory remains important to worshippers today.
From picture to marble image
The trust dates the consecration of the present marble image to 1961 and credits the sculptor B. V. Talim. The image and the earlier sacred story belong to different stages in the temple’s development.
