Delhi Gate and Arcot Fort

A historic town on the Palar that served as the capital of the Nawabs of the Carnatic and forms a tri-city with Walajapet and Ranipet. Its heritage includes the Jama Masjid, the tomb of Saadatullah Khan I, the Delhi Gate and the famous 1751 siege by Robert Clive.

A Nawabi-era mosque within the old Arcot fort precinct, standing beside two tanks alongside the tomb of Saadatullah Khan, an early Nawab of the Carnatic. The masjid and adjoining structures near the citadel are ASI-protected and are among the surviving relics of Arcot's period as capital of the Carnatic Nawabs.

An ancient Vishnu temple on the banks of the Palar river at Arcot, distinguished by a towering five-tiered Rajagopuram. It is one of the principal Vaishnavite shrines of the Arcot region and is administered by the Tamil Nadu HR&CE department.

The tomb-shrine of the 18th-century Sufi saint Hazrat Tipu Mastan Aulia at Arcot. Legend holds that Hyder Ali named his son Tipu Sultan after receiving the saint's blessing. The dargah is a well-known symbol of inter-faith harmony and hosts an annual urs festival drawing pilgrims across communities.

A historic mosque in Arcot located opposite the ruins of the Nawabs' palace. It is one of the surviving Islamic monuments from Arcot's Nawabi era of the 18th century.

The district headquarters town on the Palar, founded in the 18th century and named for a Maratha queen. It is a leather-tanning and industrial (SIPCOT) centre and forms a tri-city with Arcot and Walajapet.

A distinctive temple near Walajapet that uniquely combines Hanuman (Anjaneya) worship with the Navagraha (nine planetary) deities. Its unusual pairing of Hanuman with the Navagrahas makes it a locally notable shrine.

A roughly 300-year-old Shiva temple in Walajapet built in the Dravidian style, dedicated to Kasiviswanathar with the goddess Kasivisalakshi. Maintained by the Tamil Nadu HR&CE department, it is a notable heritage temple of the Walajah area.

A set of 8th-century Pallava-period sculptures of the Sapta Matrikas (seven mother goddesses) at Perumganchi near Walajah. Protected by the Tamil Nadu state archaeology department, the panel is regarded as one of the finest surviving examples of Pallava sculptural art in the district.

A historic Shiva temple in Walajapet dedicated to Ekambaranathar, echoing the famous Kanchipuram Ekambaranathar shrine. It is among the older Saivite temples documented in the Walajah region.

A Jain rock-cut cave complex on a hillock near Vilapakkam, one of the largest excavations in the Pallava Mahendra style, with sculpted pillars, a Yakshini goddess image and early-medieval Jain inscriptions. The area was a flourishing Jain centre from about the 9th to 11th centuries and is protected as an ancient monument.

One of the oldest trading towns of the old North Arcot region, long a centre of silk weaving and nicknamed the 'Silk City'. It sits opposite Arcot across the Palar and is a commercial hub of the district.
