Kanja Sahib Tomb (Battle of Sholinghur memorial), Walajah

An ancient Shiva temple in Sholinghur town, distinct from the hilltop Narasimha shrines. Dedicated to Lord Shiva as Sozhapureeswarar, it is one of the older temples of the town.

A famed Hanuman shrine at Sholinghur that, with the Yoga Narasimha (Periya Malai) and Lakshmi Narasimha (Chinna Malai) hill temples, forms the town's trinity of pilgrimage shrines. Devotees seeking relief from ailments and mental afflictions worship the Yoga Anjaneyar deity, making it a major stop on the Sholinghur circuit.

A hilltop Vaishnavite temple (a Divya Desam, Thirukkadigai) where Lord Lakshmi Narasimha is reached by climbing about 1,305 granite steps up the Periya Malai. A companion Anjaneyar (Hanuman) shrine sits on the adjacent Chinna Malai, and it is one of the district's most important pilgrimage centres.

A hill of about 1,500 feet near Ranipet, popular for its views and its small Shiva and Murugan shrines, including the Jothi Linkeshwarar temple. It is known for a resonant natural 'bell rock' and a scatter of small svayambhu lingams, and is a favourite short pilgrimage and biking destination from Chennai.

A monolithic Pallava rock-cut cave shrine to Vishnu excavated under Mahendravarman I (c. 600-630 CE), whose inscription names it Mahendra-Vishnugriha. It is regarded as one of the earliest examples in the Pallava rock-cut tradition that later flowered at Kanchipuram and Mamallapuram, and is protected by the ASI.

A historic Shiva temple in Walajapet dedicated to Ekambaranathar, echoing the famous Kanchipuram Ekambaranathar shrine. It is among the older Saivite temples documented in the Walajah region.

A large irrigation tank at Kaveripakkam excavated in the 8th century during the reign of Pallava king Nandivarman III. Fed by the Palar river, it holds about 1,474 million cubic feet of water with an 8.35 km bank and ten sluice gates, its overflow feeding the Kosasthalaiyar river. It is among the oldest and largest man-made lakes in the region.

A set of 8th-century Pallava-period sculptures of the Sapta Matrikas (seven mother goddesses) at Perumganchi near Walajah. Protected by the Tamil Nadu state archaeology department, the panel is regarded as one of the finest surviving examples of Pallava sculptural art in the district.

A roughly 300-year-old Shiva temple in Walajapet built in the Dravidian style, dedicated to Kasiviswanathar with the goddess Kasivisalakshi. Maintained by the Tamil Nadu HR&CE department, it is a notable heritage temple of the Walajah area.

A distinctive temple near Walajapet that uniquely combines Hanuman (Anjaneya) worship with the Navagraha (nine planetary) deities. Its unusual pairing of Hanuman with the Navagrahas makes it a locally notable shrine.

The district headquarters town on the Palar, founded in the 18th century and named for a Maratha queen. It is a leather-tanning and industrial (SIPCOT) centre and forms a tri-city with Arcot and Walajapet.
