Overview
St Mary's Orthodox Cathedral at Puthencavu, on the eastern edge of Chengannur, was consecrated in the name of St Mary in 1793 by Mar Thoma VI, who then lived at Puthencavu from 1794 to 1808 and made it a centre of the Malankara church. The church still keeps the room, bed and chapel of his first Holy Qurbana, and the remains of Mar Thoma VI, Mar Thoma VIII and Geevarghese Mar Philoxenos are interred there.
