Sri Sringeri Shankara Math, Kalady

Overview

Kalady's birthplace shrines are administered from the Sri Sringeri Shankara Math, the Kerala branch of the Sringeri Sharada Peetham, whose own records say the site lay largely forgotten until the 33rd Peetathipathi located it with the help of the Maharaja of Travancore and built two temples here, consecrated on 21 February 1910. Within the compound are shrines to Sri Shakti Ganapati, Sri Sharadamba and Adi Shankara, the Aryamba Samadhi memorial to Shankara's mother, and a Sarpa Sannidhi serpent shrine; a Vedic studies centre followed in 1927.
