Rajamala has more than one arrival stage
The Rajamala visitor experience begins below the high grassland views. Visitors arrive at the lower entry arrangement, use the park’s authorised transport and then reach the upper tourism area. A photograph of a bus among the hills belongs to that later stage, not proof that a private taxi can drive to the same point.
The Eravikulam National Park brochure explicitly excludes private vehicles from entry inside the park and describes the safari-bus service. That arrangement is part of how the tourism zone operates. A ticket and a road destination therefore need to be understood together rather than treated as independent details.
Keep the map attached to the road arrival
A useful navigation pin identifies the lower visitor/reporting base. The upper bus stop and the walking area are internal stages reached under park directions. Sending a driver to an upper photograph’s geotag can confuse a valid picture location with a permitted vehicle destination.
This distinction matters particularly when planning from Munnar. The drive to the park, entry processing, transport queue and onward walk all occupy time. A sightseeing plan that allocates only the walking period leaves the visitor-transfer stages unaccounted for.
The park’s published entry window should also govern the plan. An interpretation facility or programme may describe a broader working period, but that does not mean new visitors can arrive at the gate until the final activity ends. Use the current entry and booking instructions for the intended day.
What changes at the upper end
The bus photograph shows a vehicle lettered for Eravikulam National Park and the Forest and Wildlife Department, parked beneath a metal canopy. It makes the organised transport stage recognisable. At the upper arrival, attention shifts to the permitted walking route and interpretation spaces within the managed visitor zone.
The brochure also describes an electric golf-cart programme. Its presence should not be interpreted as a promise that every visitor receives a cart or that it covers every part of the route. Anyone depending on assisted movement needs the programme’s current availability and actual limits before making the journey.
Follow the route staff direct and retain enough flexibility for the return transport. A striking hill view can make it tempting to keep walking towards the next ridge, but the public tourism zone has defined limits within a much larger protected area.
For a group, agree whether everyone will undertake the same walking section and where to regroup within the permitted visitor area. This avoids turning the return into a search along an unfamiliar internal road or across several queues.
Rajamala is easier to enjoy when its sequence is clear: lower road arrival, authorised transport, upper visitor area and the directed return. The bus is not simply a way to reach the scenery; it is one of the structures that allows a limited public visit within Eravikulam’s protected landscape.
