The three seasons

Peak season — best weatherOctober to February

Dry, mild and comfortable, with warm days around 30–32°C and cooler evenings. This is the best time to walk Fort Kochi, sit out by the fishing nets and take a backwater cruise — and the busiest, with the highest room rates, especially over Christmas–New Year and the Cochin Carnival.

Summer — hot & humidMarch to May

Hot and increasingly humid as the pre-monsoon builds, climbing past 33°C with sticky afternoons and the odd thunderstorm. Crowds thin and prices soften — May brings the cheapest flights of the year. Plan indoor sights and museums for the midday heat.

Monsoon — green & quietJune to September

The southwest monsoon brings heavy, dramatic rain — June and July are the wettest — turning Kerala lush and emptying the streets of tourists. Hotels run 40–60% cheaper, it is the traditional season for Ayurveda, and the Onam harvest festival falls in August or September.

Best weather vs best value

Flights into Kochi (COK) are cheapest in the May–June low season; the October–February peak is dearest. Booking around a month or more ahead, and flying mid-week rather than on a Sunday, typically costs less.

Hotel rates fall sharply outside peak — roughly 40–60% cheaper from April to September, with the deepest discounts in the May–June monsoon run-up, even at four- and five-star properties.

The trade-off is simple: October–February buys the best weather at the highest prices; May–September trades rain for the best value. For the full breakdown, see our cheapest time to visit Kochi guide.
