The story
Kamaraj Sagar Dam near Kodaikanal, also known as Lower Shola Dam, is a small working reservoir on the western sightseeing circuit rather than the similarly named reservoir near Ooty.

The stop is valued for water, wooded slopes and a quieter roadside setting, but its primary role is water management. Reservoir level changes with rainfall and supply conditions, so a full-water photograph should never be treated as a promise of what will be visible on a particular day.
Use only a recognised public viewpoint. The embankment, channels and shore may include operational or unstable ground, and there is no reason to cross a fence or descend towards the water. Mist and rain can also reduce visibility along the approach road even when central Kodaikanal is clear.
Include the dam in a western circuit only when the route leaves enough daylight for the return. Take food waste back to town, avoid loud music and do not assume boating, swimming, toilets or a staffed ticket counter are available. If access is closed, continue with another authorised stop instead of searching for a track around the barrier.
