The story
The Thiruvalluvar Statue honours the Tamil poet and author of the Tirukkural on an offshore rock beside Vivekananda Rock Memorial. Seen from shore, the monument is a landmark on the horizon. Up close, its scale and literary symbolism become the focus of the visit.
The story of Thiruvalluvar Statue
The combined statue and pedestal height of 133 feet represents the Tirukkural’s 133 chapters. Sculptor V. Ganapathi Sthapathi created the monument, which was dedicated on 1 January 2000.
The district describes visitor access up to the statue’s feet, not a climb through the full sculpture. Set expectations accordingly if anyone is imagining a tower-top viewing deck.
The glass bridge provides a connection with Vivekananda Rock Memorial. Check the operating route and what your ticket includes before boarding; do not assume every advertised boat service offers identical access.
For the visit itself, allow around 30–45 minutes at the monument within a longer offshore excursion. The best time is daylight in suitable sea conditions; visibility changes with coastal weather. Confirm the ferry and glass-bridge access arrangement for your visit. Allow time to understand the monument’s literary meaning as well as photograph it.
