A Shiva temple among the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams, revered in the 7th-century Tevaram, and famous for its celebrated Vatapi Ganapathi (Ganesha) shrine whose bronze idol is said to have been brought from Vatapi after a Pallava campaign. The village is honoured as the birthplace of Siruthonda Nayanar, one of the 63 Saivite Nayanmars, whose family is depicted in the temple.
