Highlights

  • Melapuliyur Shiva Temple (Arunachaleswarar) — One of the older Saivite temples of the Perambalur area, locally revered for its association with healing and its quiet heritage setting near the Pachaimalai foothills. It lies close to the Mayil Ootru waterfall route and is listed among the district's notable Shiva shrines.
  • Mayil Ootru Waterfalls — A seasonal waterfall in the Pachaimalai foothills about 15 km from Perambalur, reached by a short forest trek. Its Tamil name means 'peacock spring', after the peacock-like shape of the rock over which the water falls. It flows strongest during and just after the north-east monsoon and is prized as an uncommercialised, wild spot for trekking and bathing.
  • Yanaikatti Falls — A seasonal waterfall near Ladapuram village in the Pachaimalai foothills, its name derived from the Tamil for 'elephant' after a rock formation resembling one. It flows chiefly during the monsoon and lies close to the Mayil Ootru trekking area.
