An ancient port settlement at the confluence of the Vaigai river and the Bay of Bengal, excavated by the Tamil Nadu State Department of Archaeology. Finds point to maritime trade with Rome from about the 1st century BCE to the 5th century CE, including Mediterranean Rouletted ware, amphorae sherds, Roman coins, ivory bangles, glass beads and Tamil-Brahmi inscribed potsherds. It is regarded as one of Tamil Nadu's key early-historic trade ports, sometimes compared with Keeladi.

A village on a peninsula along the Gulf of Mannar with two beaches, a wave-washed south beach popular for weekend picnics and a calmer northern shore used for fishing and boat repair. It is well known for salt production, with the Tamil Nadu Salt Corporation operating salt pans here since 1974. The village also holds the dargahs of Islamic saints Peer Muhammad and Noor Muhammad Waliyullah.

A 5.93 sq km protected wetland notified in 1998, spread across the Melaselvanur and Keelaselvanur village tanks in Kadaladi taluk. Considered the best heronry in Ramanathapuram district, it hosts breeding and migratory water birds from October to February, including the near-threatened spot-billed pelican, painted stork, Asian openbill stork, herons, egrets, ibises and spoonbills. Surveys have documented over 100 bird species at the site.

A small uninhabited island in the Gulf of Mannar near Mandapam, known for its rich coral reefs, seagrass beds, and marine biodiversity, part of the Gulf of Mannar Marine National Park.

Opened in 1914, this was India's first sea bridge, linking Rameswaram island to the mainland across the Palk Strait with a distinctive double-leaf bascule section.

Opened in April 2025, this is India's first vertical-lift sea railway bridge, built alongside the century-old original Pamban Bridge to carry rail traffic to Rameswaram.

The memorial and resting place (Thevar Thidal) of freedom fighter and community leader Pasumpon U. Muthuramalinga Thevar (1908-1963), in Pasumpon village. His burial site was converted into an official memorial in 1971. Each year on his Guru Pooja and Jayanthi in late October, large crowds and political leaders gather here to pay tribute.
