- Kumaragiri Murugan Temple — A hilltop Murugan temple on the Udayapatti bypass road about 6 km from Salem city. It is a locally popular pilgrimage and viewpoint spot on the outskirts of Salem.
- Kandhashramam — A hillside ashram and temple on the banks of the Jarugu hill at Udayapatti, about 5 km from Salem. It is a quiet spiritual retreat and Murugan worship site near the city.
- Alagirinathar Temple — A Vishnu temple in the centre of Salem near the old fort area, also known locally as Kottai Perumal Koil. It is one of the older Vaishnavite shrines in the city.
- Appa Paithiyam Swamy Temple — A samadhi shrine near the Salem railway station, built in 1859 over the resting place of a revered local saint. It is a small heritage devotional site in the city.
- Salem Jama Masjid — Described as the oldest mosque in Salem, standing on the southern bank of the Thirumanimutharu river in the city centre. It is a long-standing centre of the local Muslim community.
- Lechler Memorial Church — The oldest church in Salem, built in 1856 by a German missionary in the Fort area of the city. It commemorates missionary Johann Lechler and is a heritage landmark.
