Sri Uthira Ranganatha Swamy Temple, Pallikonda
This Vishnu temple stands on the banks of the Palar river at Pallikonda, about 24 km west of Vellore town, with the deity reclining in a sayana kolam (lying posture). Tradition holds it as the first of three shrines where Lord Narayana appeared in a reclining form to hold back floodwaters threatening Brahma's yagna. Its origins are traced to around the 5th century, and it was substantially expanded under the Vijayanagara kings.
