Hampi Bazaar (Virupaksha Bazaar) is the long, colonnaded market street that runs east from the Virupaksha temple for about a kilometre. In Vijayanagara times it was a thriving market where traders dealt in diamonds, pearls, horses and spices.

Today its rows of ruined stone pavilions frame the temple gopuram and the Nandi (Yeduru Basavanna) monolith at its far end; the street is a fine place for a slow walk, photography and a sense of the medieval city’s scale.
