Kalady

Kalady, on the bank of the Periyar river, is revered as the birthplace of the 8th-century philosopher Adi Shankaracharya. The pilgrimage circuit centres on the Sri Adi Shankara Keerthi Sthambha Mandapam (a nine-storey octagonal memorial tower), the Sri Krishna and Sree Sharada temples, and the Adi Shankara Janmabhoomi Kshetram. It pairs a short, calm spiritual visit with the green river landscape of inland Ernakulam — and sits only ~10 km from Cochin airport.
