History & overview
The Keerthi Sthambha Mandapam is a nine-storey octagonal memorial tower at Kalady honouring Adi Shankaracharya, the 8th-century philosopher born here on the bank of the Periyar. Inside are the Paduka Mandapam and a museum tracing his life and travels; the nearby Janmabhoomi Kshetram marks his birthplace. Kalady is an easy, calm half-day from Kochi and only about 10 km from the airport.
