Highlights
- Jalanatheeswarar Temple, Takkolam — A Shiva temple on the Kosasthalaiyar river with Pallava origins and a masonry structure from around 876 CE under Aparajitavarman, carrying 51 inscriptions and revered as a Paadal Petra Sthalam. Takkolam is also the site of the decisive Battle of Takkolam (c. 949 CE).
- Arakkonam — A major railway junction town in the north of the district and gateway to several Pallava heritage sites. Nearby is the naval air station INS Rajali, which has one of the longest military runways in Asia.
