The story
Yercaud Lake is a central boating and lakeside stop in the Shevaroy Hills, convenient for a relaxed start or finish to a Yercaud visit. Use the lake as a place to slow down between the hill viewpoints. A boat ride is optional; a short lakeside visit can be enough if you have just finished the climb from Salem.

The district lists the Big Lake and its boat house among Yercaud’s principal attractions. The lake experience is distinct from the elevated outlooks at the Seats and Pagoda Point.
At the boat counter, check the available boat type, capacity and rental period before paying. A family group may need a different arrangement from a couple, and availability can change during busy periods.
Keep time for a meal or rest rather than filling the entire day with viewpoints. If returning down the ghat road, agree your departure time before joining a lengthy boating queue.
For the visit itself, allow 45–90 minutes, depending on boating and queues. The best time is daylight in suitable boating weather; weekends may need a longer wait. Check boat availability and charges at the counter. Keep your return journey in mind before joining the queue. Wear the provided life jacket and follow the boat operator’s capacity limits.
