Devakottai Chettinad Mansions

A centuries-old Shiva temple (also called Siragilinather) in Kandadevi village, about 3 km from Devakottai. It is best known for its grand Aani Urchavam chariot (ther) festival in the Tamil month of Aani, drawn by devotees from around 75 surrounding villages. The chariot procession was suspended for 17 years amid community disputes before being revived in 2024 as a symbol of restored social harmony.

One of the nine Nagarathar clan temples of Chettinad, located at Iluppaikudi and dedicated to Shiva as Thanthondreeswarar (also called Swayamprakasha Eswarar). Like the other clan temples, it functions as an ancestral temple of one exogamous section of the Nattukottai Chettiar community. It is maintained by the Nagarathar and is part of the traditional pilgrimage of the nine clan temples.

The principal Shiva temple in the heart of Devakottai, known locally as the Nagara Sivan Koil, built in the late 19th century by the Nagarathar community. The presiding deities Sundareswarar and Meenakshi are enshrined in their wedding (kalyana kolam) posture. It is also called the Sekkizhar Temple, with a shrine and processional image of Sekkizhar, the 12th-century author of the Periya Puranam.

A memorial mandapam at Sirukoodalpatti near Karaikudi honouring Kannadasan, the celebrated 20th-century Tamil poet and film lyricist known as 'Kaviarasu' (King of Poets), who hailed from this region. It commemorates one of Tamil Nadu's most beloved literary figures. The memorial is listed among the district's official places of interest.

A famed Chettinad mansion in Karaikudi popularly nicknamed the 'Thousand Windows House' for its rows of louvred windows and doors along its long facade.

One of the nine ancestral clan (Nagara) temples of the Chettinad Nagarathar community, all dedicated to Lord Shiva and traditionally attributed to Pandya-era foundation. Mathur is one of only two of the nine temples (with Ilayathangudi) that has internal divisions (pirivu), and it enshrines the guardian deity Ananda Muneeswarar. Marriage rules among the Nagarathar are structured around membership of these clan temples.

Kadiapatti is one of the quieter Chettinad villages notable for its cluster of old mansions.
