A famed Chettinad mansion in Karaikudi popularly nicknamed the 'Thousand Windows House' for its rows of louvred windows and doors along its long facade.

Aayiram Jannal Veedu (Thousand Windows House), Karaikudi is best understood through its defining feature, its relationship with Karaikudi and the evidence that survives at the site today.

It is famed as the place where the Vaishnava acharya Ramanuja proclaimed the sacred Ashtakshara mantra 'Om Namo Narayanaya' to all people from the temple tower, defying his teacher's instruction to keep it secret. Its landmark Ashtanga Vimana rises even taller than the five-tiered rajagopuram and enshrines the deity in three postures across its levels.

An ancient Shiva temple (Kotravaleeswarar / Rajakhadga Paramesvara) at Koviloor near Karaikudi, built in the Dravidian style and associated with Pandya-era patronage. Adjoining it is the Koviloor Aadheenam, a nearly 200-year-old Saiva mutt founded by Sri Muthuramalinga Gnana Desikar, the Andavar of Koviloor. The Aadheenam is noted as an early centre of systematic Vedanta study in Tamil, publishing Tamil versions of major Vedantic texts.

One of the nine ancestral clan (Nagara) temples of the Chettinad Nagarathar community, all dedicated to Lord Shiva and traditionally attributed to Pandya-era foundation. Mathur is one of only two of the nine temples (with Ilayathangudi) that has internal divisions (pirivu), and it enshrines the guardian deity Ananda Muneeswarar. Marriage rules among the Nagarathar are structured around membership of these clan temples.
