Time neededMost visitors find 45 minutes to about 1.5 hours enough for a relaxed darshan and a look around the complex.
Patteeswaram, a short drive from Kumbakonam, centres on the Dhenupureeswarar temple dedicated to Shiva, but over time the Durgai (Durga) shrine within the complex has become the more popular focus of pilgrimage.
The temple complex is old, with the Cholas linked to the original site and later masonry and expansion associated with the Nayak period; today it draws devotees specifically for the darshan of its Durga.
