Kamaraj Sagar Dam is planned from Ooty, one of the travel bases in The Nilgiris district. Use Ooty for stays, food and local transport, then plan this place as a focused stop.

The story

Ooty’s Kamaraj Sagar Dam is a reservoir on the town’s western outskirts, set among Nilgiri slopes and distinct from the Kamaraj Sagar or Lower Shola Dam near Kodaikanal.

The story of Kamaraj Sagar Dam

The appeal is the broad water-and-hillside view rather than an elaborate visitor complex. Cloud can move quickly across the reservoir and seasonal storage changes the shoreline, making a short flexible stop more realistic than travelling solely to reproduce an online photograph.

Treat it as functioning infrastructure. Remain at the permitted roadside or signed viewing area, keep away from spillways and steep banks, and never infer swimming or boating access from an unfenced patch of shore. Rain also makes verges and informal pull-offs slippery.

Arrange the onward drive before leaving Ooty because a return taxi may not be waiting at the reservoir. Bring water, keep the road clear and carry all litter back to town. When a gate, forest instruction or water-board barrier limits the view, that boundary is part of the current visit and should not be bypassed.

Book with the place itself. India’s cyber-crime coordination centre warned in April 2025 that convincing copies of hotel and pilgrimage booking sites are being pushed through sponsored search and social ads, taking payment for rooms the property never hears about. Every listing here links to the business’s own contact details and its own Google or Bing profile — we take no commission and sit in nobody’s payment path. If a booking page reached you through an ad, check the address bar against the property’s own site before you pay. Fraud can be reported on cybercrime.gov.in or on 1930.
