The story
Pykara Falls is the downstream cascade of the Pykara River excursion west of Ooty, separate from the reservoir boat house upstream. Decide between the falls viewpoint and Pykara Lake boating—or allow enough road time for both. They are linked by the river but are not one entrance.

Water level, barriers and path conditions change with rain. View from the permitted platforms and never climb wet rock or enter a closed bathing area.
The Ooty–Gudalur road can be slow during holiday traffic. Arrange your return before dusk and do not confuse the lake boat-house closing time with access at the falls.
For the visit itself, allow one to two hours at the falls plus the drive from Ooty. The best time is daylight after safe rainfall, with open paths and manageable road conditions. Use the signed falls access and maintained path. Check conditions before combining the falls with boating. Do not cross barriers, climb wet rock or enter fast water.
