Saptharisheeswarar Temple (Lalgudi)

One of the oldest water-diversion structures still in use, built by Chola king Karikalan across the Kaveri around the 2nd century CE, and still irrigating the delta today.

One of the 108 Divya Desams, situated on the north bank of the Kollidam (Coleroon) river. Vishnu is worshipped here as Vadivazhagiya Nambi in a reclining posture. The village of Anbil is historically noted as the home of the Chola-era minister Anbil Aniruddha Brahmadhiraja.

A 108 Divya Desam on the banks of the Kaveri, dedicated to Vishnu as Appala Ranganathar (Appakkudathaan). It is one of the five Pancharanga Kshetrams, the sacred Ranganatha shrines strung along the Kaveri. The presiding deity reclines and the temple is glorified in the hymns of the Alvar saints.

A notable Shiva temple frequently listed among Trichy's significant religious sites, valued locally for its antiquity and quiet, less-crowded darshan compared to the city's larger shrines.

One of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams, a Shiva temple on the banks of the Kaveri roughly 24 km from Trichy toward Thanjavur. Shiva is worshipped here as Nedungalanathar (Nithya Sundareswarar). The sanctum is unusual in having two vimanas, reflecting the legend that Shiva gave the left half of his body to the goddess Umayaval.

One of the Pancha Bhoota Stalams representing the water element, a major Shaiva pilgrimage site about 2 km east of Srirangam, known for its sanctum built directly over a natural spring.

A Paadal Petra Sthalam Shiva temple about 20 km north of Trichy, praised by the Saivite trio Sambandar, Appar and Sundarar. It is unusual for having a dedicated shrine to Yama, the god of death, in a cave-like chamber said to be built by the Pallava king Mahendravarman. Devotees perform Ayush Homa here to overcome the fear of death, and the temple carries inscriptions of Rajaraja I and Rajendra Chola I.

One of the 108 Divya Desams, glorified in the Nalayira Divya Prabandham by Thirumangai Alvar. It is the only temple where the Trimurti - Brahma, Vishnu (worshipped here as Purushothama Perumal) and Shiva - are enshrined together with their consorts in six separate shrines. Built in Dravidian style, it once formed a four-Divya-Desam circuit with Uraiyur, Srirangam and Thiruvellarai.
