Saptharisheeswarar Temple (Lalgudi)

A Shiva temple on the banks of the Coleroon, glorified in the Tevaram hymns of the Nayanar saints as Thiruthavathurai. Its name derives from the legend that the seven sages (Saptarishi) worshipped Shiva here. The large temple has four prakarams, a tall five-tiered western Rajagopuram, and carries centuries of Chola inscriptions.
