Irukkankudi Mariamman Temple

Trading and industrial town on the Vaippar river, known for its safety-match and chilli/dry-goods trade. It is a gateway town between Virudhunagar and Sivakasi.

An ancient Vishnu temple on the banks of the Vaippar river in Sattur, believed to be around 800 years old and popularly known as South Tirupathi. Legend holds that Venkatachalapathi of Tirupati stayed here on a roughly 200-foot hillock to bless devotees. Vaikunta Ekadasi is its major annual festival.

A reservoir about 7 km from Virudhunagar built across the Kowsika river, a tributary of the Arjuna, and inaugurated in 1986. It is developed as a picnic spot offering boating, trekking and birdwatching. The reservoir hosts water birds and several migratory species during the winter months.

It preserves his cot, spectacles, clothes, letters and rare photographs, commemorating his role in expanding school education and launching the midday meal scheme.
