Sivakasi Mariamman Temple (Badrakaliamman)

Industrial town known as the firecracker capital of India, producing the bulk of the country's fireworks alongside major safety-match and offset-printing industries. It is a factory-town heritage destination south of Virudhunagar.

One of the 108 Divya Desams, dedicated to Vishnu as Nindra Narayana and built on a 100-foot granite hill at Thiruthangal near Sivakasi. It contains rock-cut cave shrines with 8th-century Pandya inscriptions and unusually has no rajagopuram.

A rock-cut Shiva temple on the Thiruthangal granite hill, believed to have been built by the Pandyan minister Gurukalathirayan in 1233 CE. It shares the hill with the Ninra Narayana Perumal Divya Desam and a Murugan shrine, forming a rock-hill temple complex. The site lies about 4 km from Sivakasi.

An ancient Vishnu temple on the banks of the Vaippar river in Sattur, believed to be around 800 years old and popularly known as South Tirupathi. Legend holds that Venkatachalapathi of Tirupati stayed here on a roughly 200-foot hillock to bless devotees. Vaikunta Ekadasi is its major annual festival.

Trading and industrial town on the Vaippar river, known for its safety-match and chilli/dry-goods trade. It is a gateway town between Virudhunagar and Sivakasi.

An old and popular Mariamman pilgrimage temple believed to be several centuries old, set at the confluence of the Arjuna and Vaippar rivers near Sattur. Its riverside setting and annual festivals draw pilgrims from across the district. It is one of the most visited village temples in the Sattur area.

Twin shrine of the Alvar saint-poet Andal and Vishnu as Vatapatrasayee, one of the 108 Divya Desams. Its 192-foot 11-tier rajagopuram is the emblem on the Tamil Nadu state government's official logo.

The largest Shiva temple in Virudhunagar district, 1 km south of Srivilliputhur, built by Thirumalai Nayak in the 16th century. Its Siddhamirtham tank water is believed to have curative powers.

A reservoir about 7 km from Virudhunagar built across the Kowsika river, a tributary of the Arjuna, and inaugurated in 1986. It is developed as a picnic spot offering boating, trekking and birdwatching. The reservoir hosts water birds and several migratory species during the winter months.

This house museum is the birthplace and childhood home of K. Kamaraj, freedom fighter, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and President of the Indian National Congress. Built in the mid-1880s, it was acquired by the state government and converted into a memorial. It preserves his cot, spectacles, clothes, letters and rare photographs, commemorating his role in expanding school education and launching the midday meal scheme.

One of the oldest temples in the region and a landmark of Virudhunagar town, with a history spanning roughly four centuries. Dedicated to the goddess Mariamman, it is known for the large temple tank within its complex. It draws large numbers of local devotees during its annual festivals.

A locally revered temple in Virudhunagar town dedicated to Lord Ganesha (Vinayagar). It is listed among the town's notable holy places on district tourism resources and serves as a regular worship centre for residents.
