The story

Guna Caves is a forest sightseeing stop in Kodaikanal, known for deep rock clefts and its association with the Tamil film Gunaa. Visit the permitted forest paths and viewing areas. The name does not mean that visitors can explore the deep chambers as a walk-through cave attraction.

The story of Guna Caves

The site was earlier known as Devil’s Kitchen; its film association popularised the name Guna Caves. The appeal includes the wooded setting as well as the rock formations.

Keep the cinema connection separate from what is safe to do on a visit. Film scenes and online photographs do not establish a public route into the crevices.

The stop fits with the nearby Pillar Rocks and Pine Forest circuit. Budget time for the walk from the visitor entrance and use shoes with grip, particularly when the ground is damp.

For the visit itself, allow 45–60 minutes for the permitted forest visit. The best time is during public opening hours with safe path conditions. Follow only the signed public route. Allow walking time in addition to the drive between attractions. Never cross barriers, enter deep clefts or follow an unofficial route into the caves.

Book with the place itself. India’s cyber-crime coordination centre warned in April 2025 that convincing copies of hotel and pilgrimage booking sites are being pushed through sponsored search and social ads, taking payment for rooms the property never hears about. Every listing here links to the business’s own contact details and its own Google or Bing profile — we take no commission and sit in nobody’s payment path. If a booking page reached you through an ad, check the address bar against the property’s own site before you pay. Fraud can be reported on cybercrime.gov.in or on 1930.
