The story

Pillar Rocks is a Kodaikanal viewpoint facing dramatic granite formations, part of the forest sightseeing corridor that also includes Guna Caves and the Pine Forest. Plan to view the rocks from the permitted visitor area, not climb them. Cloud can reveal or hide the formations within a short visit.

The story of Pillar Rocks

The granite pillars give this stop a different emphasis from a general valley viewpoint. Look at the shapes and separation of the rock faces when visibility allows.

The nearby forest attractions can share a drive, but they remain separate stops. Leave time to park, walk to each permitted area and return, instead of adding only their map distances together.

If cloud blocks the view, a brief wait may be worthwhile, but a clear view is never guaranteed. Keep the rest of your day flexible rather than abandoning barriers in search of another angle.

For the visit itself, allow 30–45 minutes at the viewpoint, plus road and parking time. The best time is choose a clear-weather daylight interval when possible. View the formations from the designated area. Combine nearby forest stops only within their operating access arrangements. Stay behind barriers and avoid unofficial paths along cliff edges.
