The story
Kundrakudi Shanmughanathar Temple is a living Murugan shrine on a compact granite hill, with rock-cut sacred spaces and later halls. The shrine is near Karaikudi but not in its town centre. Expect steps, barefoot temple rules and a midday closure rather than unrestricted hill access.

Kundrakudi is deeply important to local Murugan devotion, but descriptions calling it a seventh Arupadai Veedu are devotional usage, not membership in the canonical six.
Climb only during an open worship session, carry water and ask before photographing interiors or worshippers.
For the visit itself, allow one to two hours. The best time is a cool morning or late-afternoon darshan session. Navigate to the Kundrakudi temple approach. Allow time for the steps and footwear arrangements. Steps and sun exposure can limit access.
