A large Shiva temple set on the fortified Piranmalai hill (over 2,000 ft), the last outcrop of the Eastern Ghats in Tirupathur taluk. Regarded as the fifth of the Tevaram-praised Shiva sthalams of the Pandya region, the roughly 30-acre complex has three prakarams, five vimanams and a tall rajagopuram, with shrines representing Bhumi, Antariksham and Swargam. The hilltop also holds a Bhairavar shrine, the Pandava Theerthams and the dargah of Waliullah Sheikh Abdullah, making it sacred to both Hindus and Muslims.
