A Paadal Petra Sthalam Shiva temple near Ambar, revered in the Tevaram hymns. The deity is worshipped as Mahakalanathar (Mahakaleswarar), a form linking Shiva to Kala, time and death. It is part of the Ambar cluster of Chola-era delta shrines.

One of the 108 Divya Desams of Vishnu, near Kollumangudi, praised by the Alvars. It is one of only two Divya Desams where Vishnu reclines facing south (the other being Srirangam), and the only one with a separate shrine for Adisesha, placed above Garuda.
