Highlights

  • Ninra Narayana Perumal Temple, Thiruthangal — One of the 108 Divya Desams, dedicated to Vishnu as Nindra Narayana and built on a 100-foot granite hill at Thiruthangal near Sivakasi. It contains rock-cut cave shrines with 8th-century Pandya inscriptions and unusually has no rajagopuram.
  • Sivakasi — Industrial town known as the firecracker capital of India, producing the bulk of the country's fireworks alongside major safety-match and offset-printing industries. It is a factory-town heritage destination south of Virudhunagar.
  • Sivakasi Mariamman Temple (Badrakaliamman) — Well-known Mariamman / Badrakaliamman temple in Sivakasi town, a major place of worship for the fireworks-industry community. It draws large crowds during its annual festival.

South-west monsoon. June to September is the south-west monsoon in Tamil Nadu. Expect heavy showers, mostly in bursts rather than all day — carry rain cover, allow extra time for getting around, and note that ferries and open-air sites are the first things affected.

Sun and moon are calculated for this location and shown in IST. Photography windows are the hour around sunrise and sunset; the sunset bearing is degrees clockwise from true north. Moon phase is accurate to about half a day.
