A goddess temple in Rameswaram town dedicated to Badrakali, a fierce form of Durga. It is regarded as one of the prominent temples of the district alongside the great Ramanathaswamy shrine. Pilgrims commonly visit it as part of their Rameswaram temple circuit.

Considered the best heronry in Ramanathapuram district, it hosts breeding and migratory water birds from October to February, including the near-threatened spot-billed pelican, painted stork, Asian openbill stork, herons, egrets, ibises and spoonbills. Surveys have documented over 100 bird species at the site.

A Shiva temple counted among the 276 Paadal Petra Sthalams glorified in the 7th-century Thevaram hymns of Tirugnanasambandar, ranked as the 253rd such shrine. It has an east-facing nine-tiered rajagopuram about 130 feet tall over a roughly 10-acre complex, with a swayambhu (self-manifested) lingam. The goddess Snehavalli is linked to the planet Venus (Sukra), so devotees visit to remedy Sukra-related afflictions.

The memorial and resting place (Thevar Thidal) of freedom fighter and community leader Pasumpon U. Muthuramalinga Thevar (1908-1963), in Pasumpon village. His burial site was converted into an official memorial in 1971. Each year on his Guru Pooja and Jayanthi in late October, large crowds and political leaders gather here to pay tribute.
