The story

Sim’s Park is Coonoor’s century-old botanical park, laid out within a natural ravine with mature trees, lawns and a small lake. Expect a sloping botanical walk rather than a level municipal playground. Pick a circuit that leaves enough energy for the climb back.

The story of Sim's Park

The district describes a park shaped around the land’s natural contours more than a century ago. Its mature tree collection and changing levels distinguish it from Ooty’s larger botanical garden.

Use labels to compare conifers, broad-leaved trees and ornamental planting. The annual fruit or horticultural show is a dated event, not a permanent display.

Paths can be damp under the canopy. Wear footwear with grip, keep to the public route and ask about the gentlest return before descending to the lower sections.

For the visit itself, allow one to two hours. The best time is a dry daylight session; special displays depend on announced dates. Choose a loop suited to your walking ability. Confirm event dates if travelling for a show. Wet sloping paths require care.

Book with the place itself. India’s cyber-crime coordination centre warned in April 2025 that convincing copies of hotel and pilgrimage booking sites are being pushed through sponsored search and social ads, taking payment for rooms the property never hears about. Every listing here links to the business’s own contact details and its own Google or Bing profile — we take no commission and sit in nobody’s payment path. If a booking page reached you through an ad, check the address bar against the property’s own site before you pay. Fraud can be reported on cybercrime.gov.in or on 1930.

The cantonment's own halt on the Nilgiri Mountain Railway, and the point every distance on the Wellington page is measured from, because the town has no bus stand at all.
