Mandalpatti (Mugilupete) is a grassland hilltop viewpoint at about 1,600 m within the Pushpagiri range, roughly 20 km from Madikeri. Reached by a rough track that the last stretch is usually covered by hired jeeps, it is one of Coorg’s most famous sunrise and sunset points.
From the top, ridge after ridge of the Western Ghats roll away, often above a sea of cloud in the early morning. In the monsoon the hill is green and mist-wrapped but the track can be very rough and views hit-or-miss.

A restaurant near the Post Office trading on the district's own cooking — Kodagu food is distinct from the rest of Karnataka, with pandi curry and kadumbuttu rather than a standard south Indian menu.

A vegetarian restaurant beside the KSRTC bus stand, in the cluster of eating houses travellers use around bus times.
A restaurant on Junior College Road, about a kilometre from the centre of Madikeri. That puts it outside the tight knot of eating houses around the two bus stands, which is the point of it for anyone staying at that end of town.
A vegetarian restaurant at Madikeri Junction, reported as reliable for a plain good meal rather than anything elaborate.
A restaurant near the police station with vegetarian options, in the same central block as several of the town's other eating houses.
Book with the place itself. India’s cyber-crime coordination centre warned in April 2025 that convincing copies of hotel and pilgrimage booking sites are being pushed through sponsored search and social ads, taking payment for rooms the property never hears about. Every listing here links to the business’s own contact details and its own Google or Bing profile — we take no commission and sit in nobody’s payment path. If a booking page reached you through an ad, check the address bar against the property’s own site before you pay. Fraud can be reported on cybercrime.gov.in or on 1930.

If you are travelling by bus or ferry, check the return service with the operator before setting out. Leave time to reach the stop or jetty after your visit.
Ask at the bus stand for the time of the last service back, not the next one. If you miss it, an auto or app cab is the fallback — agree the fare before you get in.
If you need step-free access, contact the site before travelling. Ask about a level entrance, steps along the route, the nearest drop-off point, seating and accessible toilets.
