Muthanga belongs to Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary and the larger Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. Kerala Tourism distinguishes it from the sanctuary’s other ranges, including Tholpetty, and describes moist deciduous and semi-evergreen forest with bamboo.
