Overview
Athirappilly is Kerala’s largest waterfall: the Chalakudy river drops about 24 metres through rainforest on the edge of the Sholayar ranges, which has earned it the nickname the “Niagara of South India.” It is the headline day trip west of Kochi (about 63–70 km, in Thrissur district), usually paired with the Vazhachal rapids a few kilometres upstream. Go early — the falls are busiest at midday and the forest road closes to traffic by evening.
