Thrissur’s historic city zoo and the newer zoological park at Puthur are separate locations. Choose the destination by its current function before setting out.
The story of Thrissur Zoo
The older Chembukkavu complex combined a zoo with museum collections and gardens. Kerala Tourism’s description includes natural-history and art collections, with wood carving, metalwork, traditional lamps and other objects alongside the former animal attractions. This explains why older guides use “museum and zoo” as a combined name.
The animal-park visit has moved into a new chapter at Puthur. Reporting in February and March 2026 records the new zoological park opening to the public on 28 February. A 2026 Central Zoo Authority recognition document separately identifies the Thrissur Zoological Park at Puthur. The city-centre map pin on this page should not be used as directions to the new park.

Why visit
For live-animal viewing, plan explicitly for Puthur and check its current ticket and visiting arrangements. For the historic Chembukkavu site, confirm which museum sections are operating before travelling. Old animal photographs and old city-zoo opening hours should not be used to promise the present-day experience at either location.
