Highlights
- Waterfall viewpoint at Marottichal Falls
- Forest-edge scenery
- Short walks, food stops or nearby viewpoints where available
A forest waterfall and fish sanctuary near Marottichal in the hills east of Thrissur, reached by a short walk.

Marottichal names a forested village landscape and more than one waterfall. The names on an old trekking description are not a current access permit.
Kerala Tourism identifies Marottichal as a hilly village near Thrissur whose waterfalls become more prominent during the monsoon. Travel accounts distinguish Olakkayam from the farther Ilanjippara cascade. A visitor should establish which waterfall a route or photograph actually refers to before using it to plan a walk.
Access reporting has changed over time. Onmanorama reported restrictions on the Ilanjippara forest route in 2018; later reporting described proposals to develop the waterfalls for tourism. A proposal and an operating visitor route are different things. This page does not establish that an old forest trail is open today.
First confirm the named waterfall and current permitted approach with the Forest Department or local tourism office. If access cannot be confirmed, choose another managed destination rather than following an old track description. Seasonal flow makes the scenery change quickly, and the return journey deserves as much planning as the outward walk.

Book with the place itself. India’s cyber-crime coordination centre warned in April 2025 that convincing copies of hotel and pilgrimage booking sites are being pushed through sponsored search and social ads, taking payment for rooms the property never hears about. Use the contact and source details on each profile to confirm the exact business and booking channel. A directory entry or map pin alone does not establish an operator’s identity or current availability. Roampedia takes no commission and does not collect booking payments. If a booking page reached you through an ad, check the address bar against the property’s own site before you pay. Fraud can be reported on cybercrime.gov.in or on 1930.
