The story of Ponmudi viewpoint
Kerala Tourism places Ponmudi above Kallar in the Western Ghats and describes a road journey from the capital through changing hills and forest. The viewpoint is one part of that larger hill station, not a guaranteed sunrise platform above the clouds.
Cloud is the useful variable. Some days the valley opens; on others mist erases the distant ridges and draws attention to the nearer grass and vegetation. The site does not become a different place when the panorama disappears. It does, however, become harder to judge edges and road bends, so a photograph from a clear day should not dictate a risky stop in poor visibility.
The Kerala Forest Department lists Ponmudi as an ecotourism centre. Check the current booking route, entrance, hours and any road restriction directly before leaving the city, and allow for the hill-road return in daylight.
