The story
The shore at Hosdurg Kadappuram, about 1.8 km west of Kanhangad town, reached off the Hosdurg Beach Road. It is a working coastal strand — coconut behind it, fishing craft on it, nothing built for visitors — and the nearest thing Kanhangad has to a beach of its own.
The story of Kanhangad beach
Kanhangad is a town that faces inland. Its landmarks — the fort, the two ashrams, the market — all sit east of the railway, and the coast is something you have to go looking for. Follow the Hosdurg Beach Road west out of town for a couple of kilometres and the houses thin into coconut, and then there is sand.
What you find is a working shore rather than a beach in the tourist sense: no promenade, no stalls, no lifeguard, no parking. The hamlet behind it is Hosdurg Kadappuram — kadappuram simply means the seafront — and it lives from the sea.
The comparison that matters is Bekal, about ten kilometres north, which has the fort, the landscaped beach park and the crowds. If you want the photographed version of this coast, go there. Kanhangad’s own shore is the unphotographed one, and it is empty most days for exactly that reason.
⚠ The beach is described in a number of places online as an olive ridley nesting shore with a September-to-November season. We could find only aggregator sources for that and no departmental or conservation record, so we do not state it as fact. Kerala’s northern coast does have documented nesting shores — Kolavipalam in Kozhikode is the well-recorded one — but we cannot verify this stretch.

History
Kanhangad is the headquarters of Hosdurg taluk, and Hosdurg — the “new fort” — is the older administrative name that still attaches to the fort above the town, to the beach road, and to the seafront hamlet.
The coast here has no monument and no documented event of its own. It is a fishing shore whose record is the working kind rather than the archival kind, which is why this entry is short.
Why visit
It is empty. On most days you will have several hundred metres of shore to yourself, which is not true of Bekal ten kilometres north.
It is the closest sea to the town — under two kilometres from the centre — so it fits into an afternoon that also takes in Hosdurg Fort and the ashrams.

West-facing and open, so the sunset is the reason to time it for the end of the day.
